Hot Dip Galvanizing: An Overview
Hot Dip Galvanizing is a process that involves applying a metallic zinc coating to chemically washed steel or iron by immersing it in a molten zinc bath at a temperature of around 450° Celcius.

Hot dip galvanizing has been in use for over 150 years, has established itself as the most effective solution to combat corrosion.

Research suggests that galvanized coatings corrode significantly slower than untreated steel, with estimates ranging from 18 to 80 times slower.

01

Surface Preparation

This initial step involves thorough cleaning and pickling operations to eliminate any dirt, grease, rust, or scale present on the surface.

02

Prefluxing

Following surface preparation, this step focuses on dissolving any oxide that may have formed on the iron or steel surface after pickling. It also serves to prevent the formation of further rust.

Membersihkan sisa-sisa oksida yang mungkin terbentuk selama proses pembersihan.

03

Galvanizing

In this crucial stage, the cleaned and oxide-free iron or steel is immersed into a bath of molten zinc, ensuring complete coverage and adhesion of the protective coating.

04

Finishing

The final step encompasses various procedures including quenching, removal of excess zinc from the product, and meticulous inspection to guarantee the quality and uniformity of the galvanized finish.

The durability of galvanized steel is directly proportional to the thickness of the coating. alternative methods such as electro-galvanizing and cold galvanizing, which result in thinner corrosion solutions, are not as resilient as hot-dip coatings.
